Air Force Life | ASBC

I am going to start doing posts that I will share my air force life with you. This is a huge part of my life since I have to make a lot of sacrifices to support my husband. I have to be fully on board with whatever the air force throws at us! It is a life of complete flexibility, patience, and change. It is also a life of fun and adventure. I have been with Matt through the very beginning. He attended the University of Minnesota where he received a full ride scholarship for the AFROTC program. During that time I was also involved in a lot of air force events, dinners, and ceremonies. He also lived with three other air force guys and I was able to experience that whole “air force family” thing right away. Matt was commissioned in May of 2009 (I will post some images of that ceremony later) as a second lieutenant. Oh and he is going to be a pilot!!!! We knew where we were going to move, but it wasn’t until the following November that we actually made the trip to Oklahoma. It was a hard day to see all our stuff being packed up and knowing that someone else was going to live in MY home. It just didn’t feel right. We were headed off to a new home, a new life, and new experiences. It took us two days to drive to Oklahoma, along the way visiting friends. It was very, very hard to leave, but I was happy that we had each other to get through it! I knew I had to be strong because that is what this new life was going to be all about!

I will post more about life in Enid, OK on Vance Air Force Base later but I wanted to share about some recent experiences that we have been through. Our first “assignment” after the big move was to come to Montgomery, AL to Maxwell Air Force Base for a program called ASBC (Air and Space Basic Course). This is a program that every person newly commissioned into the air force has to go through. It basically gets everyone on the same page on what the air force is all about. They also get to go out camping and do some type of deployment training. So we arrived here on Feb 1st and we got to unpack into our little hotel room. Welcome to your home for six weeks! That week we had an orientation meeting for all the spouses. We quickly got to know each other and started to spend afternoons and evenings go out, having dinner, and watching movies while our husbands were busy as “school”. On the weekends Matt and I have been able to leave base to go to places such as Atlanta, Florida, and Mississippi to visit family, friends, or just explore! It has been an interesting experience and fun for most of the time. We are both excited to get back to our home in Oklahoma, but we have enjoyed our time here getting to know new people and going to new places!
