Planet Box Review Rover Lunch Box
For some school has already started but for us, we still have one more week to soak up the last drops of summer vacation! We have back to school orientation and are checking off the supply list to make sure we are all set when school is back in session.
How are you feeling about back-to-school?
I’m feeling bittersweet about going back as I’ve loved the slow pace but I need some structure and time to get work done alone. Thankfully we have a great balance with our part-time homeschool program. I get Brooklyn home with me two days a week and we look forward to the slower schedule on those days.
One thing that we need to add back into our routine is making lunch. Each night before school I put together a lunch for Brooklyn to take with her since her small school doesn’t have a hot lunch option. I made the investment into a Planet Box lunchbox last year knowing we would want something that holds up to frequent use and made lunches fun with tons of variety.
After researching different bento box style lunch boxes I went with the Rover box from Planet Box and added on the carry bag, pod 4 pack, utensils, and coldkit. I loved it more than I thought I would. We have a rotating menu of items that I know Brooklyn likes such has jelly sandwiches, cheese quesadillas, or pasta and I balance it out with a couple of fruits, couple of veggies, crackers or a crunchy snack, and a sweet treat. Most days we don’t get fancy but sometimes I do like adding a fun surprise or cook around a theme like a Halloween or Valentine’s Day.
The box gets washed in the dishwasher after each use and I can make her lunch the night before and keep it in the fridge overnight. I keep the coldkit in the freezer and everything is pulled out in the morning. I include an extra mid-morning snack in her carry bag and water bottle (we use a Camelback for kids and it fits great).
I created an unboxing video for you to see everything that we got!
If you plan to make cold lunches often I highly recommend investing in one of the boxes from Planet Box along with their accessories. I didn’t know if I would use the pod pack much but it came in handy with certain foods that maybe were more leak-prone like watermelon and to separate different types of food. I also loved having the fork and spoon set so we had a designated reusable set that always stayed with the carry bag and we didn’t risk losing our nicer utensils.
Watch for occasional sales on their site and snag a box when you see one. They are currently having a sale until September 15 for 25% off! I am not affiliated at all with Planet Box but we have just loved using their lunch box over the past year and I wanted to share our thoughts if they might be helpful for someone looking!
