It’s brand refresh day and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that this has been over a year in the making (but really so many more years getting to this point). I’ve sketched out ideas about where I want my business to go and how I want to serve my people. It’s involved a lot of soul searching, prayer, and, honestly, courage to put all this out there.
For 13 years I’ve been just a photographer and naturally, I’ve grown and changed over such a long period of time. I’ve developed new passions through life experiences, my priorities in life have transitioned with frequent moves and having children, and through seasons of joy, doubt, and hope, I feel like I might have a little more to share with the world.
This business and online space has served me by providing a community where I get to meet so many unique individuals that share in similar spirits (especially during each move) and has allowed me to stay connected with those who I’m no longer (physically) close to. I’ve wanted this digital home and business to not just be about my photography, but an outlet where I can share more about myself and have the freedom to express my thoughts, love on others, and encourage anyone who is here to listen.
This might mean things will look a little messier but I can promise that you will only find someone real and authentic (insecurities and all), sharing her heart and hoping that you might take away a small nugget here or there.
The last few years I’ve made a Word of the Year and last year was surrender. I felt in many ways that I was not surrendering enough and allowing God to have control, particularly in my business. I know that 2018 was more about surrendering control over growing our family and any fears I had about adoption. In September Kendall came and I might not have perfectly surrendered but I did see how God always has greater plans for us when we allow Him to be in control.
As much as I wanted to hang on to my word for 2018 because I felt I didn’t do it justice I decided to dive into how 2019 could be different. After some digging and narrowing down the list of contenders I confidently discovered that my word for 2019 is RENEW. And I’m more confident in this than ever as I’m going through this brand refresh process.
Through my word study of renew in the Bible, I came to learn it’s definition.
Renew | is to cause to grow up, make new, new strength and vigor, new kind of life, complete change for the better.
Wow! As I wrote those words earlier this year they didn’t have as much weight as they do now. As I gained clarity about my business I could see how God was renewing my purpose and mission while still allowing me to use my gifts and craft.
Col 3:10 says “and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of it’s creator.”
I hope (pray) that whatever I am lead to publish out into the world is only a reflection of the one who created it and that my story might be encouraging to you in some way. So get ready to see some familiar things around here but also a mix of new ranging from motherhood, wellness, travel, home remodeling, military, and homeschooling.
