Last spring I trained for a half marathon which I ran in May of 2011 in Oklahoma City. I never thought for a minute that I would ever run more than a couple miles in my life. But with the motivation of some friends and a nice pair of running shoes (which I didn’t realized existed) I began training for my big run. I used Hal Higdon’s novice training program which was really great and easy to follow. My favorite app was RunKeeper to help keep track of all my runs and progress. Once I got up to week seven and did my 7 mile run I injured my foot. I had to take nearly two weeks off from running and just did light walking and spinning. I started up again with some 4 miles runs and just did that up until my race day. I ended up finished the race under my goal time in 2 hours and 37 minutes! It was really one of the most amazing things I have ever done. I never thought I would do it since I have always had trouble with my knees and endurance. I proved myself wrong!
So for the video blog today I ask my friend Linnea to do a guest vlog on her training as an experienced running. She has some great tips to be inspired and motivated while having fun training for a big race or just running to stay fit.
